July 4th: Independence Day

On this day, over two hundred years ago, our forefathers took a stand.  They decided that their God-given unalienable rights had been violated long enough, and they were ready to risk everything that they had to take back their liberties and rights.

They pledged their lives, their fortunes, and their Sacred Honor.  Many of them lost everything they had for the cause of freedom.  Most of them lost their lives, fortunes, and Sacred Honor.  But was it worth it?  After that war ended, there began the greatest country that has ever been.  One that was founded on Christian principles, and was run by amazing, brave people, who’s Lord and Master was God.  Because these men were brave, and took a perilous stand when the odds were overwhelmingly against them, the Colonies were given their independence from England.

However, let’s fast forward to present times again.  What is going on today?  Let’s first look at the list of grievances committed by the King of England against the Colonies.

He has refused his Assent to Laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good.
He has forbidden his Governors to pass Laws of immediate and pressing importance, unless suspended in their operation till his Assent should be obtained; and when so suspended, he has utterly neglected to attend to them.
He has refused to pass other Laws for the accommodation of large districts of people, unless those people would relinquish the right of Representation in the Legislature, a right inestimable to them and formidable to tyrants only.
He has called together legislative bodies at places unusual, uncomfortable, and distant from the depository of their public Records, for the sole purpose of fatiguing them into compliance with his measures.
He has dissolved Representative Houses repeatedly, for opposing with manly firmness his invasions on the rights of the people.
He has refused for a long time, after such dissolutions, to cause others to be elected; whereby the Legislative powers, incapable of Annihilation, have returned to the People at large for their exercise; the State remaining in the mean time exposed to all the dangers of invasion from without, and convulsions within.
He has endeavoured to prevent the population of these States; for that purpose obstructing the Laws for Naturalization of Foreigners; refusing to pass others to encourage their migrations hither, and raising the conditions of new Appropriations of Lands.
He has obstructed the Administration of Justice, by refusing his Assent to Laws for establishing Judiciary powers.
He has made Judges dependent on his Will alone, for the tenure of their offices, and the amount and payment of their salaries.
He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harrass our people, and eat out their substance.
He has kept among us, in times of peace, Standing Armies without the Consent of our legislatures.
He has affected to render the Military independent of and superior to the Civil power.
He has combined with others to subject us to a jurisdiction foreign to our constitution, and unacknowledged by our laws; giving his Assent to their Acts of pretended Legislation:
For Quartering large bodies of armed troops among us:
For protecting them, by a mock Trial, from punishment for any Murders which they should commit on the Inhabitants of these States:
For cutting off our Trade with all parts of the world:
For imposing Taxes on us without our Consent:
For depriving us in many cases, of the benefits of Trial by Jury:
For transporting us beyond Seas to be tried for pretended offences
For abolishing the free System of English Laws in a neighbouring Province, establishing therein an Arbitrary government, and enlarging its Boundaries so as to render it at once an example and fit instrument for introducing the same absolute rule into these Colonies:
For taking away our Charters, abolishing our most valuable Laws, and altering fundamentally the Forms of our Governments:
For suspending our own Legislatures, and declaring themselves invested with power to legislate for us in all cases whatsoever.
He has abdicated Government here, by declaring us out of his Protection and waging War against us.
He has plundered our seas, ravaged our Coasts, burnt our towns, and destroyed the lives of our people.
He is at this time transporting large Armies of foreign Mercenaries to complete the works of death, desolation and tyranny, already begun with circumstances of Cruelty & perfidy scarcely paralleled in the most barbarous ages, and totally unworthy the Head of a civilized nation.
He has constrained our fellow Citizens taken Captive on the high Seas to bear Arms against their Country, to become the executioners of their friends and Brethren, or to fall themselves by their Hands.
He has excited domestic insurrections amongst us, and has endeavoured to bring on the inhabitants of our frontiers, the merciless Indian Savages, whose known rule of warfare, is an undistinguished destruction of all ages, sexes and conditions.

As you read those, did it occur to you just how many of those are being committed against us today from our own government?

For imposing Taxes on us without our Consent

Need I say anything about this one? 😉

For transporting us beyond Seas to be tried for pretended offences

Though it may not be overseas, do any of you remember the unfortunate homeschool family in Colorado that was abused by the authorities?  It was all over a pretended offence of child neglection.

He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harrass our people, and eat out their substance.

What about all those new offices that are appointed only, and not voted on by the people?

For protecting them, by a mock Trial, from punishment for any Murders which they should commit on the Inhabitants of these States:

What about the lack of capital punishment?  The Bible, which our country was founded on, says an eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth, life for a life.

He has combined with others to subject us to a jurisdiction foreign to our constitution

What about all the judges turning to other constitutions besides our own to govern their decisions?

He has endeavoured to prevent the population of these States

Roe v. Wade?

Need I go on?  In the past two hundred years, we have let our government slip into doing the same offenses for which we left England!  Yet what do we do?  Most of the U.S. citizens don’t even realize what’s going on, and even if they did, would they even care?  The few of us who realize just how much trouble our country is in, seems to be too small a number to make a difference.

Today we lack the George Washington’s, John Hanncock’s, John Adam’s, Benjamin Franklin’s, Paul Revere’s, and the other countless men of yesteryear’s who were willing to take a stand and risk everything they had for a just cause.  Even when the odds were overwhelmingly against them.  What has happened to them?  Where have they gone?

I strongly urge you to read the Declaration of Independence.  And I pray that it makes you weep over what we as a nation have given up.

  1. That is so true.
Now I didn’t have time to read all of it but it really is amazing and sad.
The situation we as a nation are in sin’t as good as it used to be. Not that I was expecting it to be to scale to what it was. But the government really is messing up when you look at where we are as a country now and then.

  2. With how we as a nation have messed up so much, I’m surprised that God has let us continue. I can’t help but wonder if we are going to go into captivity like Israel in Judges.

  3. I don’t know about Captivity as much as just slaves to our own sin, only in a different point of view.

But I guess being slave to our own sin would be like being in captivity. I’m only thinking that America is going to just suffer for the sinful choices they have maid, that’s all.
